WHEN AND WHERE ARE THE MEETS?
Meet Schedules vary year to year. We will post this year’s schedule on swimtopia & the team calendar. Also, reach out to parents’ chat on GroupMe for questions; we can help!
Please note: Meets are during the school day, over the weekend or after school. (any missed school is excused)
TYPES OF MEETS:
League Meets- Meets vs. 1-3 other high schools
Away meets - Locations vary. Swimmers are to ride the team bus to meet.
Travel Meets - (Invites, District, Regionals, and States) - Swimmers are bussed to these meets. Some of these meets have time standards to qualify. Some of these meets are two days, so swimmers stay overnight in hotels.
Prelims/Finals Meets - This means if a swimmer finishes in the top 16 ( that can vary) during the prelims, they will swim the same event again in a finals meet. Typically this is one day: prelims in the morning, then finals in the evening.
WHAT TO WEAR AT MEETS:
Coach or captains will give swimmers an “outfit” assignment before a meet, so our team is uniformed.
WHAT TO BRING TO MEETS:
Team suit, team cap, goggles, towels, snacks, water bottle.
Some swimmers like to wear tech suits for the travel meets (they tend to be “faster” meets) ….this is NOT required but good to know if you are accustomed to wearing tech suits.
FOOD THEY EAT AT MEETS:
The boosters club will provide snacks and meals for the swimmers during travel meets only. Please make sure your athletes are packing water.
TIMELINE FOR THE SEASON:
Practices run the whole school year.
Meets begin in September and end in March.
Summer Meetups - Throughout the summer - this is usually Captain led
Back to School Splash - A few days before School starts
Halloween Party & Trunk or Treat @ CPHS- October
Holiday Party - December Host
Team Pasta Parties - Throughout the season
Awards Banquet - April/May
WHAT'S A PASTA PARTY?
Pasta Parties are great team building events that happen the night before a meet. Parents volunteer to host and a sign up genius is put out to the team to sign up for food and drinks which are then served potluck style.
Most pasta parties are attended by swimmers only but we often invite parents to attend and we hope you will!
WHERE DO WE PRACTICE?
Waterloo Swimming, 12332 Ranch Rd 620 N BLDG C, Austin, TX 78750.
DO I HAVE TO TAKE MY STUDENT FROM WATERLOO TO SCHOOL?
No. There is a bus to take students from Waterloo to CPHS. For students with vehicles they will follow the bus to school following practice.
HOW DO MEETS WORK? DO PARENTS HAVE TO GO?
We love for parents to come out and cheer on the team. We try and sit together and many of us wear our CPHS swim t-shirts too. We will also occasionally need timers and volunteers during meets, sign ups for this will be open at the beginning of the school year.
Students go to all meets via bus as a team and they return back to the school the same way.
HOW CAN I HELP?
There are lots of opportunities for volunteering to help. Here are a few things we'll be asking for:
- Host a pasta party
- Sign up for food for a pasta party
- Sign up for drinks or snacks for the meets
- Lead or join a committee
- Banquet
- Fundraising
- Apparel
- Spirit
- Communication
- Meals & Snacks
- Attend booster meetings and offer to help
- Help at Meet the Timberwolf Night
- Help at Concession Event
- Help at/with Trunk or Treat
And trust us, there will be more ◡̈
